COUPLES THERAPY

We are all “in relationships” at all times…

…with ourselves, our family, friends, intimate partners, and our communities. The skills we learn to navigate these relationships – identifying our needs, naming our boundaries, creating space for vulnerability, holding ourselves and others with compassion – can be applied to all of our relationships.

Common concerns I work with in Couples/Relationship Therapy:

  • Exploring and improving patterns of communication
  • Navigating polyamorous/open relationships
  • Balancing connectedness and independence
  • Managing jealousy
  • Opening up a currently monogamous relationship
  • Preparing for/undergoing relationship changes and transitions
  • Recovering from a betrayal of trust

We are often not taught how to be in healthy relationships. The relationship assumptions and expectations we are taught by this culture generally set up patterns that can be anything from ineffective to dangerous. For queer or non-monogamous relationships, even the faulty scripts we are given do not apply, and we have to write them as we go. In times of difficulty, change, or growth it is important to seek out the skills and tools that will help our relationships flex and bend, not break.
